Achieving Goals

When setting and achieving goals, prepare yourself to overcome obstacles. Following are useful tips you can reference.

The number one resource I personally use for motivation and reaching goals. It's the little things you do that can reap you tons of beneftis along with a grand sense of accomplishment. Check out Everything Counts!

Tips for Overcoming Obstacles

When it comes to your goals, remember that temporary failure always precedes success. Nonetheless, you can make your goal achieving easier if you are prepared to work at overcoming obstacles. Therefore you must:

  • Be willing to pay the price: Nothing worthwhile comes easy. So be honest with yourself and stick to your commitment to succeed. If you understand, from the beginning, there will be obstacles you increase your odds of overcoming them. There's a quote by E. Joseph Cossman that goes, "Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal." So, stay focused on what you want and be determined to get it.
  • Think in terms of solutions: When you focus on solutions instead of problems you exercise your problem solving skills. You train your brain to focus on constructive thinking instead of destructive thinking. Therefore, when you come up against an obstacle, push those negative thoughts aside and automatically asked yourself, "how can I solve this challenge?" Before you know it, answers will come and you'll keep moving along towards achieving your goals.
  • Discount your fears and doubts - you have to believe: You have to really want and believe you can achieve your goal. Sure, fear and doubt will surface at times - this is normal. What you must learn is how to move forward anyway. You'll need a little courage along the way. Therefore, tap into your 'why.' Refer to your goals and your goal setting exercises if necessary.
  • Don't get trapped in the comfort zone: Do not be lulled by the comfort zone. Procrastination is waiting at the door and eager to pull you in. What's the solution? Actually, there are two: 1. Set challenging goals. Goals that are too easy will not stimulate and keep you motivated. 2. Take one action, each day, towards the achievement of your goals. Action is everything!

The last piece of advice is to find role models who have overcome what you are up against. Why not copy success and avoid pitfalls where you can? Follow the proven paths for setting and achieving goals. It'll make your journey so much easier.
