Best Internet Diet Ever

by Ben
(Manchester, NH)

Let’s face it, I have been chronically overweight for much of my adult life. Long gone are my high school days, where I would play sports every night of the week, and swim for my local team at the weekend.

I think my downfall started in college, where I developed a serious drinking problem, started to gain weight, lost confidence in my athletic and social abilities and turned to food for comfort.

This was a pattern for most of my twenties, until a couple of years ago. At this point, I randomly met a woman online, and we started talking. I found it easy to unburden myself to her, as she couldn’t see my colossal size and make an instant judgment.

She listened, and understood, having had similar issues in the past. She offered to be my ‘sponsor’, giving me someone to report to about my weight.

I started a blog for her, recording what I ate, and how much exercise I did, and the positive comments and feedback she gave me made me feel better about myself than I had done in the last 10 years.

She gave me the confidence to join my local soccer team, and I’m now steadily losing a pound or two a week, and have been doing so for the last year.

For all the silly diets I’ve read about, nothing can beat healthy eating, lots of exercise and support from your friends in your goal.
