Developing Patience Tips

Why Quick and Fast Are Not Good

Developing patience or possessing tolerance is a necessity for achievement. Add motivation as the fuel that keeps you moving towards such achievement and you have two key ingredients for success. No patience? Kiss your motivation goodbye.

One of the main reasons people lose motivation is the unrealistic time frames they associate with achieving a goal or task. Everybody wants to complete or have everything happen Now. The bottom line is success is a process that requires diligence and endurance.

You can curb your intolerance by following these simple suggestions:

  • Break tasks into smaller steps. This allows you to experience frequent pockets of achievement, which satisfies your desire to hurry things along.
  • Set realistic time frames to complete a task, and be flexible to change. This limits discouragement and frustration. For most people, as soon as they fail to achieve one goal by their targeted date they loss motivation and quit.
  • Stop and take a deep breath. Inhaling and exhaling triggers a sense of calmness. Deep breathing is therapeutic and relaxing - fighting that hurried feeling.
  • Step Away. Sometimes distance triggers perspective. Perspective can eliminate frustration which often produces unpleasant outcomes.
Maybe your impatience is related to a person or intolerance for your own mistakes. You still can use the above suggestions. For instance, maybe it drives you nuts that your significant other takes forever to prepare for an evening out. Your goal is not to become impatient. Start by setting a goal to remain calm for 15 minutes increasing time intervals until you can get through an entire evening with calm.

Remember, small successes always fuel motivation, while impatience limits it.
