effective_time_managment If you could incorporate effective time management into your day would you? If you could make smart changes using your time that can produce powerful results are you willing to make the shift? Efficient use of your time is the key. It is about working smarter not harder- a concept many people do not seem to understand. However, successful people understand very well. Managing time effectively is one of the seven habits of highly effective people. So, how do you tap into their method for success?

An Effective Time Managment Weapon For Your

Are you familiar with the Pareto Principle also known as the 80/20 rule? Use this principle as an effective time management tool. In a nutshell, the Pareto Principle suggests that in anything a few (20%) are responsible for the majority (80%). If you apply this concept to time management, then 20% of your efforts produce 80% of your results. This is power! Talk about fuel for motivation! Use your time wisely and the results will follow. You should be encouraged to realize that small pockets of time coupled with focused effort can produce big results. Because of the 80/20 rule, you can make small adjustments in your time managment to focus on a task or two towards goal achieving. Simply ask yourself, "What small task can I do today towards the achievement of an important goal?"

A Few Hours of Focused Effort Is All You Need

Stephen Covey, the author of Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, labels tasks into four different categories as follows:

  • 1. Urgent and important (these are problems). You must have time to focus on these. The goal is to eliminate problems or urgent situations as much as you can.
  • 2. Not urgent, but important (these are important life changing tasks). These are the tasks and goals that will help you live your dream or achieve a goal. You want to spend your focused time here.
  • 3. Urgent, but not important (these are things that are usually important to other people). You have to learn to dictate other's impact on your time. Consider how time spent here detracts from completion of tasks towards goal achieving.
  • 4. Not urgent and not important (tasks that have no value at all). This is often used for downtime or idle time such as watching television. Here is where you can tap into time for future success.

Use It or Lose Out

Daily, apply Mr. Covey's time management tips towards your focused time. You goal is to start or complete a task that is urgent but not important. These are the tasks that can make a huge difference in your life and help you reap the benefits of effective time management. The great thing about effective time management is that it will keep you moving forward - making progress towards those life altering goals. The more progress you make, the more it will fuel your motivation to continue. Use powerful time management tools in your life. You see, even when your time may be limited, but you can start small to finish big.
