Focus on getting the best outcome. 2. Vow to hold your emotions in check. Focus on listening to the other person's point of view. Note, I didn't say agree. Just hear what he or she has to say. You will use it for the next tip. 3. Don't lash out. Instead, deflect and defuse. An argument can't hurt you unless to accept the insults and attacks being dished. The way to avoid this is to turn the tide and let the other person eat his/her own emotional turmoil and displeasure. While it isn't always easy, the effort is well worth it.
