Motivating the Unmotivated

Motivation has always been an issue for me. I mean, I have tested to be near genius in regards to my mental abilities, and my grades in school have been anywhere between above average and top-of-the-class.
But for the longest time, I never accomplished much in my early life. If it wasn't handed to me, I generally didn't do it. If I needed money, I'd go out, find an odd job, do it and do it well, then I'd sit on my butt until the money ran out and went to do another job.
It wasn't until college that I started to find motivation. I had to. Doing reports at the last minute was unacceptable. Though my work was always GOOD, I had to work hard and constantly in order to do GREAT.
So, I began scheduling my time a bit more clearly. No more 'do it as it comes' type of thing.
I got into a habit of planning out my day; then I looked around the corner and began to plan the day after that based on what I already knew about it.
Ultimately what motivated me was the need to both impress my love and have enough time to spend with her time that I wasn't stressing over something else when I spent it with her.
I once heard my sister say that if you have goals, you should write them down, put them up somewhere where you will see them every day, and read them to yourself.
It's said that people who recite their goals each day will be more likely to follow through with them. I've begun this, and I've felt more motivated to get things done than in the past.
I have also recently dealt with issues that stem back to my childhood. Having made peace with my past, I feel more at ease, more motivated, than I did when I was younger. I am no longer held back by anything, and if you put my mind to it, there is nothing in this world that can be denied to anyone.
