Motivation Theory

Put the Theories of Motivation to Work for Maximum Self Motivation

Quicker Progress Means Faster Results For You

In a general sense, all motivation theory stems from either intrinsic (from within) or extrinsic (external) motivators. However, there is always one common denominator and that is YOU

The theories of motivation presented here are to help you uncover your own unique motivators so you can tap into the power of self motivation.

The great news is I've done the hard work for you - saving you time and effort by pulling out the important points for your benefit.

Let's get started.

Intrinsic Motivation:

This is motivation that comes from within. Maybe you are one of those people who need to feel useful or who takes pride in your work? Whatever the case may be, you have internal influences (conscious or subconscious) waiting to be unleashed. If you have tapped into this motivation gold mine - then great. If you have yet to identify your explosive fuel power, then maybe a little self exploration will help you strike motivation gold. Just know this - you want to attain this motivational level.

Extrinsic Motivation:

This is motivation caused by external influences both positive and negative. Daily, this type of motivation crosses your path. Have you ever experienced store sales with slashed or discount prices to entice you to open your wallet? On the other hand, do you know anyone who goes to work each day simply, because they need to pay the bills - fighting through their massive hatred for the job that they do?

These two types of motivation are here to stay. Understand them, then use them to reap the motivational benefits.

Interactionist Theory of Motivation:

This motivation theory is very interesting. It's premise is that the people you interact with affect your motivation. Do you believe this to be true? I bet you know of an extremely negative person who sucks the joy out of everything and everyone in their path? It's a very common occurence.

Maslow Theory of Motivation:

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is the grandfather of motivation theories. This theory simply asserts that there are a level of needs - each level requiring satisfaction before you allow yourself to be motivated  by a need in a higher level. This theory helps explain why, at times, competing motivations seem to stop your progress when you least expect it.

Attribution Theory

The attribution theory is the reason you justify your motivation levels. This theory brings light to self rationalization and what you need to be aware of to avoid self delusionment - something to be avoided at all costs.

Self Efficacy

Self efficacy is your perspection in your belief to accomplish a specific goal or tasks. It's important to learn to be strategic here, because there are significant ramifications to your motivation level.

The Goal Setting Theory

The goal setting theory on motivation believes some people are motivated by setting goals, along with their need to achieve the goals they set. This usually applied to results-oriented people. These are people to need to see things get done.

Achievement Motivation Theory

This theory asserts there are people simply motivated by the need to experience success. It's their driving force. These are people who apply the laws of success - taking the necessary steps to succeed.

Workplace Motivation Theories

Everyone needs motivation in the workplace. Specifically, these popular theories focus on the unique considerations as to what motivates people at work.

Theory of Motivation- What You Should Take Away From All of This

The important point for you to take away from theories of motivation is that motivation theory serves as the foundation for creating motivation techniques, as well as providing insight as to what best motivates you. Additionally, you must be flexible with your personal motivation strategy as your plans can change based on circumstances and need. Therefore, your goal is to find the theories and techniques to fuel your motivation for a long time to come.
