Overcoming procrastination is vital for success.  Here's the kicker - when you procrastinate you allow yourself to be drawn into an invisible web of inaction that holds you via the one thing you love most - your comfort zone. 

There is no need to fret, however, you CAN beat procrastination with a little determination and effort. 

Let's start with the standard advice. You've heard them before: 
  • Just Do It
  • Break the unwanted task into smaller tasks
  • Do the hard task first
  • Reward yourself - etc, etc, etc,

You've read about the reasons why you procrastinate:

  • It's your mechanism to deal with stress. (Keep alert. Awareness can help you get past this).
  • You do not want to do it (that's obvious).
  • You have no interest in the task (no kidding?)
  • Your fears are holding you hostage (Everyone has fears.Sometimes you just need to suck it up. That's what successful people do. They find the courage and move into action even though they are afraid).
  • Perfectionism (If this is you, then good luck with getting everything just right. You'll never get anything done, because things will never be perfect. Look at it this way...you live in an imperfect world with tons of imperfection. Are you bigger than nature and creation?)

Get disgusted with yourself! Tap into your emotions. Really....you have every reason to be disgusted; after all, you are still delaying things by seeking answers when what you really need is to move into action.

Be Disgusted Because........

  1. You've Wasted Time - Think of all the time you've lost thinking about performing what you do not want to do. All the wasted energy could have been used to complete it by now.
  2. You've Probably Lost Opportunities - You have focused so much on the how to stop procrastinating that you are probably close to, or past your deadline. You have absorbed time that could have been used to do stellar work. More than likely, you are missing out on other opportunities, because you are stuck in neutral.
  3. Your Thoughts Are Holding You Prisoner - You are what you think about most. You have literally frozen progress, because you are so busy thinking about why you do not want do get something done. Your thoughts just keep reinforcing why you are not moving into action.

Emotion is one of the strongest motivators going. Use it for overcoming procrastination. Get mad! Get disgusted! Get fed up! You are literally your own worst enemy. Don't you have enough to contend with without adding to it? Okay then - get that thing done. If not....then move on. Take your loses - as painful as they may be, because your not doing anything anyway. Know what is worse? You are experiencing the pain anyway - just a little bit at a time. You are unnecessarily prolonging the agony. Get it over with already! Move on. Just remember, overcoming procrastination is all up to you.
