Setting an Example For Weight Loss

by S. Sours
(U.S.)

Growing up I was surrounded by overweight people. My mother, my aunts, my grandparents, teachers etc. I was an overweight child and my life revolved around food. I have never had a “normal” relationship with food, it seems that I have always either been binging or on a diet, sometimes both in the same day.

For most of my life I never enjoyed working out and “looking good” just wasn’t enough motivation. Once I fell in love and got married, looking toned on my wedding day wasn’t even enough to get me eating right and working out.

All of this changed once I got pregnant. Working in the school system, I saw countless children overweight, suffering with diabetes and the pain of being taunted. I realized that teaching my child to eat right wasn’t going to start once she was old enough to be taught about food, but by watching my example.

I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, but was shocked that after having a 6 pound baby, I had only lost 5 pounds!

My motivation for weight loss was my child. I was 20 pounds bigger than before I got pregnant and determined to get it off. I purchased “The Abs Diet” and followed the plan. I also starting walking with my baby and using the WiiFit.

I have lost 20 pounds in a year…which might not seem like much to some, but I couldn’t be prouder! Hopefully my child will look back and feel like her Mother taught her good eating and exercise habits.

My advice for losing weight would be to take it one day at a time. Don’t obsess over just “looking good” but feeling good and being around to see your grandchildren.
