The fear of a past with no future

Growing up we watch on tv the story of the perfect girl, with the perfect childhood and the perfect life. I had one far from it, a childhood full of all the gifts but none of the love and affection. Add to that dealing with abuse.

I grew up blocking the event from my memory though most of the times it contributed to my sudden sadness and depression, but I convinced myself it was normal to be sad when you're 14. It wasn't until a few years later that I found a true friend and she made me realize that my past didn't make me less, didn't make me unworthy.

I went to a psychologist and though it was scary at first, talking about it, about what I remembered and didn't remember, of the pain and sadness, really gave me hope that I wasn't doomed to be a miserable person but on the contrary, I could use this to help people and give hope that suffering isn't the end of the world but a motivation to love more and yo help more.

To all of you who have ever been hurt: we don't become victims, we decide, it's up to us to rise as heroes in between ashes.
